Despite having major industries engaged with natural capital value chains such as agriculture, fisheries and forestry, there are limited impact investment products in Canada that aim to conserve and regenerate nature. To change this situation and preserve Canada’s abundant natural capital, we worked with Realize Capital Partners to support them as they solicited proposals for creative product concepts that could use support. Through that process, RCP granted funding to two organizations.
As many of the proposed initiatives remain in early stages, there is a clear opportunity for investors and capital providers to play a catalytic role in advancing them toward implementation. This report outlines key strategic gaps and actionable opportunities where targeted support can accelerate the development of scalable, natural capital investment strategies and products over time.
To support our own learning, as well as wider learning in the market, Realize Capital Partners prepared a report reflecting on the process. The reflection distills key takeaways from the process, surfacing innovative ideas, revealing emerging trends and highlighting what is needed to mobilize private capital toward nature-based solutions. It also emphasizes the role of Indigenous leadership, the importance of diverse partnerships, the need for concessionary capital and the opportunity to expand beyond traditional revenue models.
